HECHIZOO

ATELIER OF TEXTILE ENCHANTMENT

Origins & Vision

Hechizoo was founded in 2000 in Bogotá, Colombia, by Jorge
Lizarazo, who trained originally as an architect at Los Andes
University.

The name Hechizoo is a play on “hecho / hechizo” in Spanish, evoking
the idea of a made charm — a crafted spell.

Lizarazo’s background in architecture and exposure to European
design offices (notably working in France with practices like Santiago
Calatrava and Massimiliano Fuksas) informed his sensitivity to
structure, light, and material experiments.

About the Master

Philosophy & Material Innovation

At its core, Hechizoo describes its textiles as “soft architecture” — they are not mere surfaces, but spatial elements that can modulate light, depth, reflection, and texture.

The atelier is celebrated for combining natural fibers (such as silk, agave, cumare, and rainforest plants) with industrial and metallic threads (copper wire, aluminum, nylon monofilament) to create hybrid textiles with unexpected properties.

This use of heterogeneous materials allows their weaves to reflect, filter, or drift with light—textiles that almost act like screens or diaphanous architectural partitions.

Cultural & Symbolic Underpinnings

Jorge Lizarazo sees Colombian biodiversity, indigenous techniques, and local materials as deep wells of inspiration. He often incorporates Amazonian fibers or motifs that reference Colombia’s natural and cultural heritage.

His design approach often frames textiles not just as decoration, but as narrative artifacts — they carry stories, climate, light, memory, and gesture embedded in their weaving.

Craft, Scale & Atelier Practice

Hechizoo maintains a dedicated team of artisans. In Bogotá, the atelier employs dozens of highly skilled weavers, textile artisans, and designers.

Their studio commissions include rugs, tapestries, upholstery fabrics, mesh screens, architectural textiles and sculptural fabric works.

Each project is often bespoke or made in limited runs, with deep exploration of weave structure, fiber combinations, density and light response.

Influence & Legacy

Hechizoo has become a reference point in the intersection of high design, craft, and material innovation. Its textiles transcend mere furnishing, entering the realm of artistic and architectural expression.
