Inspired by the celestial radiance of “starfire,” this cabinet embodies cosmic energy
through exceptional craftsmanship. Its rosewood-veneered form features clear and
textured black urushi in the Ishimeji technique, enriched with gold leaf,
mother-of-pearl, eggshell, and nashiji lacquer—a 60-step, year-long process.
Stainless-steel handles and elm-burl drawers complete a luminous masterpiece that
transcends function, uniting art, innovation, and the ethereal mystery of the cosmos.

Sergej Kirilov is a Netherlands-based artisan specializing in the traditional Japanese lacquer technique known as Urushi. He received rigorous training under Japanese Master Mariko Nishide, which enabled him to master this labor-intensive art form. Urushi involves applying multiple layers of lacquer derived from tree sap, a process that can span several months and often requires up to 60 hand-polished layers to achieve the desired finish.
