The latest piece in Jan Kath’s East Collection, Tiger Nocturne draws on the tiger’s enduring presence in Chinese culture — a symbol of courage, protection, and quiet authority. Here, two tigers cross paths under cover of night, their forms rendered in a muted palette of 70% silk and 30% wool that lends a soft, moonlit glow.

Stripes blur and gather in layered motion, revealing the animals only at a second glance. Presence without spectacle — a balance of elegance and latent power.

The title nods to Willian Blake’s poem The Tyger, adding a lyrical echo to the scene.

TYGER TYGER, BURNING BRIGHT
IN THE FORESTS OF THE NIGHT;
WHAT IMMORTAL HAND OR EYE,
COULD FRAME THY FEARFUL SYMMETRY?

A woven nocturne where tradition and modernity meet, and where grace and wildness move in quiet harmony. It is a woven reverie in silk and wool, where tradition meets contemporary expression, and where grace and strength quietly coexist in the hushness of the moonlit night.

ABOUT JAN KATH

Jan Kath stands at the forefront of contemporary carpet culture, bridging centuries-old weaving traditions with modern artistic expression. Collaborating with master weavers in Nepal, India, and beyond, the studio preserves historic hand-knotting techniques while continually expanding their vocabulary through texture, material innovation, and refined colour sensibility.

Known for designs that are at once precise and expressive, Jan Kath challenges the boundaries of carpet-making — shifting it from decorative craft into collectible art. Made from the finest high-altitude wools and silks, each work is produced knot by knot, through months of human skill and patience.

Every carpet is a modern heirloom — a piece to be lived with, cherished, and handed down through generations. In every work, the past and the future coexist, forming a quiet, enduring testament to heritage, craft, and contemporary imagination.
